Build a tumblr-like blog with online apps

Apps needed: blogger.com, gmail.com, rssfwd.com

Why Blogger.com?

Because Blogger.com provides mail-to-blogger function which is the key for our next step. Besides, bloggers' FTP publish and Custom Domain supports are very important elements to make a blog better, say, easier to rebuild your blog in other servers.

How to import twitter,flickr,del.icio.us and other online apps automatically?

Nowadays most of online applications have their own rss feed to notice people once they have updates, and the rss are usually exported as full-text or full-image format, so I think we can subscribe the rss feeds at rssfwd.com using gmail, and then create a filter that automatically forward emails (rss content) from rssfwd to blogger, hence, every rss update will be published in blogger as a single post.

filter2

Or you make things simple, skip gmail, just use your Mail-to-Blogger Address to subscribe rssfwd feed, but the confirmation process should be taken special attention to, and there are some potential security and control problems when using this method.

Tough issues
  1. Basically, old posts, pictures, bookmarks and twitter can not be imported.
  2. The frequency of rssfwd is not as timely as tumblr or soup.io
  3. Can't not filter extra content from rssfwd, especially the unsubscribe link (maybe other rss to email services can solve this problem)
I hope this post can inspire someone who is interest in micro blogging and DIY, of course my defective solution can not help you make an user-friendly personal miniblog, i need time to improve. If you have any ideas or suggestions on this topic, please do leave me a comment!
