Baidu Blogsearch launched

Yesterday baidu had just released the second Chinese blogosphere development report of this year.Well,in this morning I found their blogsearch was finally launched.

baidu

I can't tell the difference between the baidu's blog search and web search at the first sight. However, after careful comparing, you'll find 2 special functions on the right sidebar.

One is the choice links to sort the result by date or by relevance.

sorted by date|sort by relevance

The other is the rss tracker

Obviously, the baidu blog search copied a lot from google blog search. No wonder people are away saying that baidu is a less creative company.

But how about the search result? Not very well,I'm afraid. When I searched "yee",the first result was my baidu space, which nobody knows beside myself, rather than my Chinese Blog! Doubting the baidu blog search didn't take independent blogs as Blogs,I tried to search some, but the result came out to be disappointed.

Once the baidu blog search didn't release ping service, how can their engine distinguish blogs from websites? One possible solution is to search the famous BSPs only, perhaps this is the reason why I couldn't find out independent blogs in the search results.

Baidu is about to launch Blog Search

Baidu announced they are going to launch a new Search service - Blog Search.and now the domain http://blogsearch.baidu.com is able to assess.a insider of Baidu said, the blog search service is still under test, but he also said the engine covered a large number of Chinese blogs and updated timely. The Baidu Blog Search will focus in the Chinese Blogs from all over the world, and I suspect that is her scope.

There are no good Chinese Blog Search in China presently, but many people believe that Baidu will change the situation and active this market by their professional searching technology.

Baidu Space launch blog move service

China's most successful search engine company Baidu, has recently launched a new service for their space-"blog move"(this name are judged from the url,I think the word "migrate" will be more properly ),which allows users to migrate from MSN space or Sina Blogs to Baidu Space.

In Chinese Netizen's opinion,Sina blogs are famous for the celebrities(like xujinglei),and a large proportion of white collars choose MSN space.Though Baidu space are challenging both BSPs,I don't think they will success, for a simple reason that there are no obvious characteristic or competitive advantage(human, more exactly) in Baidu space now.

4 reasons of using rss email subscripition

4 days ago I wrote a post discussing the advantages of using rss email subscription service,to my surprise, the article attract many attention.Hence,I translate it below :)
  1. For Fledgling
Not all readers are geeks. In fact,a large proportion of them have no conception of what is RSS.Don't prospect them to form the habit of using RSS Readers in short run(I've tried but failed),experience told us it takes time especially for those who don't like Web2.0.In contrast, almost everyone has an email. The operations of dealing with the RSS mail are the same to usual ones.
  2. To Jump over the Walls
There are more and more Walls on the Net,some were launched under the political consideration, some are for commercial competition need, and some are for anti-spam.I'm not saying the RSS emails are absolutely safe, but safer.
  3. Convenient for Search and Collect
Most(if not all) Online RSS Readers do not support searching and collecting, while most free emails do.Although the default search engine in emails are not as powerful as google, but better than nothing.
  4. Professional Impression
In the past, only the portal sites can provide the email subscription services. Now,every blog with RSS are able to do this.Whatever you think about it,the RSS email subscription will give the fish a cool feel,or we can say "user friendly".Besides, your blog will be more professional.
Here I recommend Three rss email subscription services.
  • emailrss.cn -In Chinese, provide the basic subscription link only, their services are not very stable I think.
  • Feedblitz -In English,This site are very professional, provide a full functional control panel.
  • R-mail -In English,It's "real time" when compare with the other two,but she will sent you emails when new comments were made which is very noisy.

13 ways to increase your rss subscribers

Many bloggers has wrote posts about how to increase rss subscribers, now I will share you with my successful experience on doing it.
  1. Use Feedburner
Feeburner has useful tool called FeedCount which will shows off the feed circulation.Beside, every feedburner feed got a permanet URL,that means you don't have to worry about the loss of moving to other BSP or Blog system.
  2. Unique feed!
Do you think it's a necessity to supply more feeds for one Blog?
  3. Write a post
The title should be Welcome to subscribe my feed, you are supposed to teach the greenhands how to subscribe rss in the content.
  4. Full article
I believe most audiences prefer to read the feeds with full content rather than reading the summary ones.
  5. Put a Feed button in the sidebar
Don't forget that people are lazy,so the simpler process will be better.why not try feedbutton?
  6. Optimize your feed
Wordpress users may find these plugins useful.Feedburner also provide convenience functions, like PingShot, SmartFeed, FeedFlare, BuzzBoost.
  7. Use significant feed icon
Anything Goes Marketing has collect some wonderful icons which are so attractive.trust me, it works :)
  8. Make it default for browser
Add the following code between and in your themplate
    < rel="Your Rss Feed" type="application/rss+xml" title="feed name” >
then the web browsers like Firefox an IE7 will automatic find the feed.
  9. Submit the feeds to any websites
To catch more attention, you should submit your feeds to websites like Technorati, google blogsearch, bloglines ect.,and had better add the word- (recomment!)-beside your feed name to confuse the new subscribers :)
  10. Use web-based feed reader
Most web-based feed readers can display the stat of feed subscribers(like bloglines) and some users are willing to make their opml public which may help you to promote.
  11. Attractive titles
Seldom did I click the posts with boring or humdrum titles when using rss reader, that's human nature.
  12. Email RSS feed
This make your blog friendly and professional.feedblitz is nice and powerful.
  13. Display the feed count
How to judge a Blog? One instant way is to see its feed count!

Vox.com is Blocked in China

After Blogspot.com was blocked for the second time(or more times,im not sure),a few days later(12 Nov 2006) we have to face another sad news -social space Vox.com is also blocked :(

You may puzzled why both of them are blocked and what organization did it?

A possible answer is that there are some political sayings or erotic pictures Chinese Goverment dislike, they need to stop all "unhealthy and badness" information from pouring into China Internet.

The organization to do this is well known as Great Fire Wall (GFW), a part of the Gold Shield Project(金 盾工程).It can block any websites abroad, containing wikipedia(recently unblock),google, technorati and so on.The one way to break through the GFW is using Proxy, like torpack,or using website's security certificate mode which the domain start with https://

Many people think the GFW is one of the most complex and highest technology that Chinese own, what a quip!

Blogbus closed series A funding and it's function introduction

News from blogbus.com and cwrblog:
Leading blog services provider Blogbus closed series A funding today. The investors are Japanese venture capital JAIC and Japanese network advertisement agent Cyber Agent. The amount is $3 to 5 million. According to Dou Yi, founder of Blogbus, this is the largest series A funding among Chinese BSPs.
Blogbus is quite different from other Chinese BSPs,their homepage is away clean and 'green' with few improtant or interesting links on it.

It's easy to asociate Blogbus with Blogger.com,they both have features & functions like
  • Simple Homepage
  • Friendly url (ended with .html)
  • Supporting an FTP connection to external web host (for the VIP account)
  • Simple but elegant themplates, and easy to edit
  • Need to rebuild after writing a post and this process will take a long time when there are over 50 posts in you account
  • Sometimes(if not aways :) ) you can't visit the blogs
Another important update of Blogbus was launching "BlogBus Pindao"(Pindao means Channel in Chinese) which allows anybody to promote posts from any BSPs or Personal Blog.hengge says they are going to make Pindao a "Blog Media" like about.com and Engadget.

The last thing I'd like to say about BlogBus is her VIP services.

a compare chart between Free users and VIP users:

Top 7 reasons why Chinese bloggers don't like to be called "Boke"

I found an interesing thing during the past Chinese Blogger Conference, amost every foreinger who konw Chinese very well, called us Boke(博客) in Chinese.Boke is one of the Chinese names of blog, however, serious bloggers don't like it at all, they even hate this foolish name!

Why we hate this name?
  1. Nobody defined an official Chinese name for blog and blogger.
There are many different callings except "Boke",like "网志"(directly tranlated form "web log"),"部落阁"(popular in Taiwan),ect.
  2. "Boke" was named by Fangxingdong
Fang ,founder of Bokee.com,is an important peoson in the history Chinese Blogosphere,it is he who firstly attract public attention on Blog during 2004~2005.However,bloggers(expeciall IT bloggers) don't like him very much, because of his strange and nasty logic on promoting the concept of Blogging.
  3. This word will be associated with plagiarizing.
Im not saying that so called bloggers will not do plagiarze, but most Boke do!And they will never give you a link or trackback or email for plagiarzing. They don't konw anything about CC at all.
  4. Those who I dislike claimed themselves boke.
Yes,a lot of Boke are posting meaningless or immoral articles or pictures from time to time.
  5. Boke confuse Blogger and Blog and Blogging
Quite funny to tell you that in Chinese,"Boke" combines the meanings of Blogger&Blog&Blogging. When you want to tranlsate “A blogger is blogging a blog” into Chinese, that is "Boke boke boke"(“博客博客博客”).via
  6. Boke is a culture,nasty culture.
We notice that some well-known(or "standard") boke is famous for their sex experence(muzi mei) or narcissistic act (furong jiejie).we disdain their status by using the same title
  7. We are serious bloggers
We think that by claiming ourselves as "blogger" can help to differentiate the real bloggers with other weirdo.

thank nikewong for helpping me translate this post :)

Keso,Chinese A-list tech blogger

Keso is the most famous blogger among the countless Chinese IT blogs, his blog was called Playin' with IT.Many bloggers regard him as a symbol of Chinese Blogospherer without any rational reasons.

Why he is so attarctive?

It's abviously not because of his apperance. To be honestly,I cann't help to associate him with the boss of gangland when seeing his photo.Nobody will agreed to describe he as a handsome man,but he is tall and has nice temperament when I met him in the Chinese bloggers conference.Don't you believe?see the picture below :)

A main reason for his good reputation may be his blog content.Generally speaking,he is a IT critic as well as a crazy google fan.For his special public relationship in Beijing IT Group,he is able to write some critique on Web companies, that is why people begin to pay attention to him in 2004.I don't konw how to judge the qualitity of his content, but the stat numbers follow may tell you  something:

China's No.1 Google Blogger

It's konwn to all google fans that Philipp Lenssen's Google Blogoscoped is most famous unofficial Google blog,he's information and story about google is always so attractive. However,in China we don't need to read his English post, for Kenwong,a menber of the Creative-weblogging and running Gseeker, will transfer even more google news to the Chinese readers.

And,for his frequency publishing, excllent content and Google China scoop, more and more people in East Asia has though him as undoubted China's No.1 Google Blogger. What's more,he has successfully attract some google staff in US(basiclly, they are from Chinese),and Even Kai-Fu Lee, "Vice President, Engineering, Product, and Public Affairs & President, Greater China",has invited him to dinner and authorized him(only) the to publish the scoop of Google China.

It's difficult to evalute his influence by data, for he had stop his original google blog in Septmeber 2006 in order to move to a new blog -Gseeker,thus all of the data accumulated during the 2005 and 2006 can not be recorded. But I notice in Zhuaxia, the most popular online rss reader in China,Gseeker is already in the top 5 list which is ranked by the subscription amount.

About Me and this Blog

Thanks for paying attention to this post

Im a college student living in Shanghai(temporarily),since Oct 2005 I have successfuly run a 'renownd' Blog called Yee's Blog which topic is Blogging tips. And in the 2006 cnbloggercon,i met the menbers from globalvoicesonline.org ,their ideal of helping the Voices from less developing countries to be sounded over world shock me.Now I realized that only writing Chinese post would not make the world konwn what's happening in Chinese Blogosphere. So,with the lofty goal and partly thinking about my Pin Money :) ,I launch this Blog.

The major topics of Blog is news and people and better posts and anything that I think is worthy to report in the Chinese Blogosphere, besides,as a large part of my blog friends are focus on IT,this Blog will introduce them in advance.
