Wazhua -Chinese Recent Readers Widget

"Any successful Web2.0 startup will be copied by Chinese in short time". -by nobody

Most of the Chinese IT Bloggers think the fate of China Web2.0 is to copy foreign Web2.0 method and translate the whole sites into Chinese then sell it and get money back.

According to this theory, the popular Blog SNS site MyBlogLog should,of course, have her Chinese copy-cat.Now I find it,its name is WaZhua.

Wait a minute, let me tell a truth - mybloglog is no the first one to provide Recent Readers Widget,I remember that years ago many Chinese BSP had provided this Widget. But they are not that successful as mybloglog, because different BSP have different API and one account can only be recognized by one BSP.So strictly speaking, both Mybloglog and WaZhua are the copy cats.

Back to WaZhua, she provide a Recent Readers Widget but can not chose the size or color,it looks like a black flash box. Some people may feel this widget doesn't harmonize well with their blog design. Here is my live demo:

Different from MyBlogLog,Wazhua's widget waste a lot of space to show the profile of the owner, most of which I think is needless, like the owner's age, gender and favorite star(s).These information should be listed in account page if the visitors wanna see.

The user account page have some problems too."Sites and Blogs I Author(我编写的博客/网站)" permit you to add only three sites(I have six Blogs!) with their names and URL but no Screenshot or Short Description or RSS Feed.Generally,"Sites and Blogs I Author" is just a link that relink to your blogs not a community.

Wazhua's SNS function is also poor, there is an unique relationship - FRIEND.No fans,no admirers,no family,no contacts. All the messages are public, never try to hide them :)

I know it no fair to compare Wazhua with MyBlogLog,they are different though have something very similar.MyBlogLog have more experience and powerful influence in blogosphere.Wazhua is local starup, she has a Chinese interface and faster access speed, but the functions are too weak and users are unable to modify the widgets.I personally advise Wazhua improving their services as soon as better or other will take her place in China.

iYee.cn is blocked

It's weird to get the email from paangood.com,the web hosting company which I placed my Chinese Blog.In the letter, they tell me that my account was suspended due to my domain name iyee.cn had received a complaint from SPAMHAUS .

This mail recalls my memory, about three days ago many blogs that hosted on paangood.com can't open and this situation last till now.Yesterday my friend told me to look at the announcement on the homepage of paangood.com,they explained their servers were being censored by the information competent department and internet supervision department because there were some illegal websites, and very unfortunately one of their users(me?!) used their server to send spam mails! So all websites on these servers could not be visited.

Now back to the point, why my blog was blocked?Did I do something illegal on that server or sent spam mails? No,of course not,I'm not that fool to waste my time and money and reputation.Actually,I haven't even wrote a email to more then three people.

If I really sent spam mails to the world, they should give me some evidence. In the mail, they just gave me an attachment - basicly a page download from SPAMHAUS .I'm not good at HTML code,I can't read it(anybody help?).

Well, well, well.I firmly believe this is paangood's fault.I didn't do anything harm, but paangood need a user to take responsibility for their (nasty) business,or,their security work was too weak that a hacker controlled the whole server and he/she happened to share my ip to send spam.Guilty,ham.

BTW,don't pity me,may be I'm the first Blogger of being blocked in such a ridiculous way in China internet history.Ha ha,congratulation to myself!

Fwd: PHProxy is a great tool

Recently the auther of PHProxy released itslatest version -PHProxy 0.5 Beta.

This news recalls my memory when I got a free Dreamhost space and had to use the awful Shanghai Railway Network. It's a terrible experience of visiting foreign websites that days,I clearly remember that Technorati.com and Wordpress.com and even the blogs hosted in Blogger.com were blocked, the only way to access through the Great Fire Wall is using Proxy. There are a couple of free web proxys I knew,as they are totally free and for public that many people use them so that would slow down the the speed and lower the  efficiency. And because of that,I put a PHProxy in my Dreamhost, luckily it worked very well with considerable speed.

There are many advantages to use PHProxy instead of other public free Proxys.
  1. It's a free and opensource programme.
  2. You have the control so you can modify it as you wish.
  3. No ADs will jump out or presented as a banner.
  4. It's fast If you setup it in an appropriate host.
  5. PHProxy help you to use up your spare broadband ;)

PHProxy demo is available now, have a try!

Wang Xiaofeng in the interview

China's powerful bloggers Wang Xiaofeng was interviewed by Danwei recently. In this video,he firstly explained why he used filthy words in his posts, and then he severely criticized China's big shot portal webside Sina's celebrities bloggers policy.Of course,he also laughed at those "silly cunt(傻逼)" celebrities who wrote blogs on sina.

I agree to most of Wang Xiaofeng's points, especially the chaotic Chinese blogosphere caused by the "silly cunt" celebrities and grassroots bloggers.

Has Meizu M8 been designed before iPhone's launched?

Recently, gadget fans around the world are talking about China-based Meizu M8,and most of them insist that Meizu M8 is just a copy cat of Apple's iPhone.

I have the same idea,to be frank. It's not a kind of big deal and didn't surprise the Chinese buys, because many factories in China are used to and pleased to copy successful models from developed countries,it's quite indifferent to most customers.

But,this case is quite different,it let me know how shameless Meizu is!

I think it's not a big deal for the Chinese factories to copy others' models if they admit later on.The sad true is,some like Meizu are making a lot of ridiculous excuse instead of confessing.

This time,Meizu invited a MP3 reporter to post a article named MiniOne(M8) has been designed before iPhone is launched(in Chinese).

In that article,they say:
  1. the first design drawings of Meizu M8 was finished on 5 Jan 2007.After that, the noticed their screem design is similar to Apple's iPhone - the same resolution ratio 3:2 ;M8 is 3.3 inches + 720×480 while iPhone is 3.5 inches + 480×320
  2. They have many blueprints which indicated the M8 has been deliberated for long.
  3. It cost them one million to custom-tailor the special screen of M8.
  4. After the iPhone's launch, they revised the design drawings of M8,and add the metal trim to reduce bulk and ply.
the so-called blueprints

"original" M8 vs "revised" M8

Meizu's coincident theory sounds nonsensical. If they really made an effort to do their own design ahead of iPhone, why abandoned it so easy? And why make almost every thing(including the palm pose and software icons) so similar to iPhone? It's a swindle!

Chinese attitude on buying Vista

The price of Windows Vista in China varies from RMB2000 to RMB2600,I don't know how much Vista costs in your country, but I do confirm few Chinese will buy it because this price is too high to us.

You may not understand why Chinese people love pirate softwares, now let me take Vista for example.

I've mentioned above, the price of Vista is higher than RMB2000(about USD257) may not shake users in developed countries, but do you know it is equal to the average monthly salary in China's economic center Shanghai! So please take this fact into consideration before criticize our behavior of buying pirate softwares.

A recent survey of public opinion from China's portal NetEase shows that 81% of netizens think Microsoft is forcing them to use pirate Vista,17% think Vista is flashy but not substantial, only 1% will buy the original version.
